Government Services Use Case

This use case focuses on government to citizen identity federation which will demonstrate the use of an mDL and/or VC for establishing a credential service provider account to access federated relying applications such as benefits apps and motor vehicle services. We plan to work collaboratively with Federal and State entities that provide credentialing services as well as technology providers that enable credential presentation from approved wallets to motor vehicle, health and benefit services. Stayed tuned for use case publications such as criteria, architectures, and interaction diagrams in the future as they are available.

As part of the use case we plan to:

  • Pay specific focus on access to government resources and systems for members of the public and alignment to state and federal requirements.

  • Introduce additional credential types – e.g., commercially issued derived credentials, international credentials, and other non-mDL credentials.

  • Explore conveying mDL or VDC usage to relying parties further down the trust chain.

  • Demonstrate additional presentation protocols (i.e., 18013-7 Annex C)

  • Demonstrate latest versioned presentation protocols for OpenID for Verifiable Presentations and High Assurance Interoperability Profile
