Digital Identities - Mobile Driver’s License (mDL)
To realize the full value of mDLs, collaboration is needed to mature standards, best practices, and protocols that safeguard user data while promoting adoption of mDLs. That’s why the NCCoE has brought together stakeholders from across the mDL ecosystem to build out reference implementations to promote standards and best practices for mDL deployments and to address adoption challenges. Over the course of this project, we will address several use cases. Our financial services use case kicked off in September 2024, and the release of our final guidelines for that effort is imminent. Our second use case working with federal and state governments to accept mDLs kicked off in January 2026. Click the links below to see the resources we have published under these efforts.
